Approximately 42,000 people in the US will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2013.
This will be the 7th straight year that this number has increased.
Early detection is key as the high mortality rate of oral cancer is due in large to late diagnosis. Oral cancer frequently does not hurt and goes undetected entirely by the patient. Sadly, most oral cancer is only discovered after it has metastasized. This may be one of the most important reasons to see your dentist regularly, even if you do not have teeth.
Dr. Mulloy will do an oral cancer screening at your exam appointment and talk with you about any risk factors you may have.
